In 2006-07 the ABC as a whole turned 75. ABC Television in Sydney and Melbourne had its 50th Anniversary.

Huge crowds of listeners and viewers visited the ABC for studio open days marking the 75th. In Melbourne and Sydney in November 2006, 1,000 past and present television staff gathered at two symbolically different events in two traditionally different cities to celebrate the same 50 years of national television.

From 2009 onwards the BAPH States – in that order – will each be celebrating their own television golden jubilees.

In organising the 2006-07 staff events we tapped into many networks of semi-formal retirement clubs and less formal lunch and dinner groups. We also know we missed contacting many, many people who would have liked to join the reunions. We know that many people who did attend want to widen their networks and renew old friendships.

We who organised the 2006 events have created this open website, abc reconnect, to help those networks grow, to link ABC staff together more strongly. We can all use the two years ahead to make the most of celebrating the 50th of television in the BAPH States.
